the poems

Volunteers have distributed these poems in subways, gyms, college campuses, libraries, post offices, bars, elevators, bookstores, and bathrooms. Poem cards can be found on utility poles, bus stops, park benches, and fences in many cities and towns.

An elegy is a poem of mourning. For thousands of years, people have created elegies in memory of those they have lost. As poems for, to, and on behalf of the dead, elegies offer grief a way out of silence. (Learn more about the project here.)
